Serenoa project came to an end on September 30th. The last efforts have been concentrated in concluding and submitting all the remaining deliverables for the commission to review. Now the project partners start to plan, organize and arrange the presentations for the last consortium meeting and for the final review meeting. These meetings will take place in Brussels on November 25th and 26th.

As one of the final activities for the dissemination actions of the project, this week, on October 1st, the paper entitled “Quill: Simplifying the Development of Cross-Platform Web User Interfaces by Collaborative Model-based Design” has been presented during SigDoc (http://sigdoc.acm.org/2013/).

Adfonic’s published online its quarterly Global AdMetrics Reports, for Q2 2012. It is targeted at aiding advertisers and publishers understand what drives campaign effectiveness. This report is based on tens of billions of ad requests processed month

online pharmacy cialis

ly by the Adfonic marketplace, it draws from analysis of thousands of mobile advertising campaigns, spanning almost fifteen thousand mobile sites and apps.

The analysis lead to three main conclusions:

For the first time, Android overtook iOS becoming the most popular platform for mobile advertisers;

There are combinations of advertiser campaign that produce exceptionally high clickthrough rates (CTRs) and effective earnings;

Gender-targeted campaigns are far more likely to deliver above-average CTRs.

The analysis investigated several factors, such as: the influence of platform, gender, regions, and top devices.

This graphic, for instance, illustrates the usage of platform types for Europe.

ation also requires significant processing capabilities which may cause, among other problems, performance issues. Although, sometimes neglected, the environmental information has a large application for context-aware adaptation.

Aware of such importance, Google requested and got last week, on 20th March, a patent for environment-aware adaptation, named “advertising based on environmental conditions”. Such patent comprises all advertising contents that are created based on environmental information.

In summary, this patent is defined as follows:

Information about an environmental condition of a remote device is received, the environmental condition being determined based on a signal output from a sensor of the remote device or a sensor coupled to the remote device. An advertisement is identified based on the environmental condition, and the advertisement is provided to the remote device.

The complete specification of this patent can be retrieved in its website.

W3C has just launched the Model-based User Interfaces Working Group as part of the Ubiquitous Web Activity.

The goal of the Model-Based UI Working Group is to develop standards as a basis for interoperability across authoring tools for context awa

viagra online

re user interfaces for Web-based interactive applications.

Application developers face increasing difficulties due to wide variations in device capabilities, in the details of the standards they support, the need to support assistive technologies for accessibility, the demand for richer user interfaces, the suites of programming languages and libraries, and the need to contain costs and meet challenging schedules during the development and maintenance of applications.

Model-based design of user interfaces focuses on separating out different levels of design concerns, allowing designers to focus on what they do best without becoming bogged down due to the complexity of particular delivery contexts. This is especially important given the demands to provide services on an ever increasing range of devices, including support for assistive technology for users with disabilities.

The MBUI Working Group’s initial focus is on task models, and UI components and integrity constraints at a level of abstraction independent of the choice of device. Future work is anticipated on taking this to the next level — the concrete UI which involves design choices specific to broad classes of devices. Models at this level can be compiled down for specific delivery channels, guided by author supplied preferences (UI skins). Further out, we hope to address standards for interoperable exchange of rules for dynamic adaptation to the context.

Model-Based UI standards are particularly relevant to creating the user interfaces (service front-ends) for cloud provisioned services, especially custom enterprise services.

The team contact is Dave Raggett and the working group chair is Gerrit Meixner.
